Frequently asked questions about chiropractic care Print E-mail

These are some of the most frequently asked questions when you come into our office.

Q: Do you take my insurance?

A: Since coverage varies for all insurances we may or may not be able to take your insurance. In general we work with most insurance and have had success with nearly all carriers. We are in-network for all the major insurance companies including: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, United Health Care,

and many others. You will be expected to pay for any co-pays or deductibles based upon your policy at the time of service. You may call our office and we may find out if we can cover your insurance or you may stop by at anytime to have us check for you. Call 770.777.0900.

Q: What is an adjustment?

A: An adjustment is the method that chiropractors use to correct misalignments of the spine. These misalignments create a number of responses in the body with the two biggest being pain and improper nerve function. We use our hands to properly reposition the misalignments called subluxations by a light, but fast force into the misaligned areas. With the adjustment you generally will hear and feel the bone move and will often feel relief right away.

Q: I've never been to a chiropractor before, does an adjustment hurt?

A: In general no. We've worked with people in tremendous pain and have been able to work with them without any problems. We will always work to your tolerance levels and should not have a problem being able to do so in your case. Please remember that ultimately we are concerned about you and will do whatever it takes to ensure that you are comfortable.

Q: How long does it take to fix these problems that I'm having?

A: This can be a tough question, but one that we hear regularly. A big key with this question is to keep in mind that it is our goal to try to get you well as quickly as possible. In many cases we can have you out of pain within days or a few weeks, depending upon the severity of the question. Restoring optimal function is longer in duration and requires more of a commitment and varies case by case. Regardless of the severity of your condition you will be told how long it will take to get you to feel good and how long it will take to correct the problem, as well as any expected charges.

Q: Do you work on kids?

A: Everyday. Kids come in for a variety of reasons but usually for things such as colic, ear infections, digestive disorders (like frequent spitting up), headaches, and sometimes for asthma, bedwetting, or ADD/ADHD. These cases usually come in for something else like neck pain or back pain but end up getting results with these other complaints.

Q: You mentioned some pretty different problems that you say you work on. Are you saying you can cure all of these problems?

A: No, not necessarily. Although people bring their kids (and themselves) for all kinds of problems it does not necessarily mean that they can have success with chiropractic. If ten children came in with asthma I might be able to help some of them and some of them I could not help out. But I can say that many people have had success with all kinds of non-musculoskeletal conditions. In fact the first chiropractic adjustment ever was performed in 1895 and was for deafness.
